On April 27th, 2014 Butter is hosting the second annual butterGOLD, celebrating the majesty of the Belgian classics with bikes, beer, food and friends. If you’re reading this it’s because we want you to join us. butterGOLD is a 160km (100 mile) course civilisée (butter’s new PC term for a gentlemen’s race) and will rumble to the north and east of Boulder, hitting all the best back-roads and dirt-roads. Sadly there will be some pavement between the fun bits.
Fee for the ride is $25.
Location: butter’s studio is at 3085 Bluff st. Boulder CO, 80304
This is an invite-only ride due to space, pace, and liability issues. If you want us to invite someone, let us know and we’ll see if we can get them in (there's a good chance we can). Pre-registration/RSVP only. Proceeds and additional donations go to Boulder Junior Cycling. You will be required to sign a waiver.
Doors open at 7:30am, come in, relax, eat a little, caffienate, socialize, watch bike racing. Pre-ride starch and stimulants will be served: doughnuts + pastries + coffee. We’ll be screening the best of Classics 2014 so Paris-Roubaix is pretty much a shoo-in although Flanders might be worth a look too! Come half kitted-up, there is limited space for changing. You can leave post-ride clothing/gear at the studio, it will be locked during the ride and we’ll be returning.
9am sharp roll out. Pace will be quick and steady but as we approach the regroup points there will be opportunities to hammer. There will be two or three regroup/refuel stations, water, Skratch hydration and ride-food will be available. Shortcuts are worked into the course. There are separate maps for the shortcuts and a regroup at the end of every shortcut. We recommend loading all the maps onto a GPS unit. GPS downloadable maps available at: http://ridewithgps.com/groups/Butter-Gold-2014
Route will be approximately 50% dirt and 50% tarmac.
The ride will be SELF-SUPPORTED - all riders must have their own spares, additional clothing, rain cape, pump etc. If you sign up for this butterGOLD make sure you are able to complete the course and bring everything you need. Absolutely all road rules apply, the group will ride safely and predictably. That said, we might roll a stop sign or two in the middle of nowhere.
If you get dropped take a shortcut and try to beat the group to the next rendezvous. There is no sag wagon, no team cars, no 60 klick bottle handups.
Food and beverages will be served. 'Holy shits' and high fives all-round. IV’s upon request
